Have You Seen Minority Report?

28 07 2009

In 2002 when the movie Minority Report was released in theaters the technological world the movie was set in seemed extremely far fetched and futuristic.  However, in recent years digital “scientists” (one could call them) have been developing that missing link between the digital world and the physical world that seemed only possible in the movies.  This new idea is called “augmented reality.”

A simple example of this augmented reality is the yellow first down line seen on TV during football games.

Here are a few more examples:

GE “Plug Into the Smart Grid”

99642-Zugara…When it came to online shopping vs. heading to the store there were significant questions that drove people to continue shopping in the store…Will the item fit? How will it look? What does it feel like? Now, with the help of Augmented Reality the link between online and offline shopping has been created.  Zugara is trying to create an online web-cam based social shopper that allows you to shop online with all of the offline features and benefits you receive when you visit the store. Check out the article.

This whole Augmented Reality thing is pretty awesome stuff…as time progresses I’m sure I will post more on the topic.

Doritos not only increases number of bags purchased of their new late night line, Blink 182 reaps benefits too.

And on top of that, Doritos, once again, has come up with a great way to incorporate the consumer in the advertising and has created innovative ways to leverage technology.

“To gain entry to Doritoslatenight.com, fans must point a special symbol located on the back of Doritos Late Night special-edition bags at their Web cam. Once the symbol is accepted they can view a virtual concert shown in 3-D.”-Brandweek.com
